Kody's "after work" work has been fixing cars. We were really blessed on our move out here to have no big problems with either the truck or our suburban. However, since we've been here, we've had to replace and repair several different things. So Kody has spent hours and hours in the evenings and on Saturday's fixing what needs fixed. He's had a few good "helpers."
One Saturday morning, Kody was working on the 4-wheel drive shaft of the suburban. He took it off to work on it. After spending about 6 hours on it, he decided to be done and wanted to go to the park. We were heading to the park to play ball as a family, going 70mph on the highway, (which is the speed limit) when all of a sudden BAM!! The entire front tire comes flying off and rolls down the highway into the median! It kept rolling and finally stopped about 200 yards in front of us. Thankfully Kody was driving and did an awesome job keeping the car straight and upright until we were able to stop. I doubt I would have stopped as gracefully as he did if I had been driving. He fetched the tire, and a kind man who stopped gave Kody a ride back to our house to pick up our truck and trailer so we could tow the suburban home. Thankfully we were only about 4 miles from home. It took 3 hours to get the suburban up onto the trailer. Cars don't drive/move very smoothly when their missing an entire wheel! It was pretty nerve wracking and it shook the kids up pretty good, but thankfully we were ok and the kids did great waiting on the side of the highway for almost 4 hours while we worked. So grateful for the Lord's tender mercies! Note to self....and everyone else: Do not attempt to drive vehicle when 4-wheel drive shaft is detached! Apparently that's a big part of what holds the wheel and tires on! Thankfully, Kody was able to fix it all!
This past Saturday he spent 12 hours under the car fixing an oil leak from a main seal. Ok, actually it was about 11 1/2 hours, once he came in for lunch and watched a couple YouTube videos on what to do. We've had the oil leak for a while, but it's such a process to get to the main seal (because it's in between the transmission and the engine) that we've been putting it off. Anyone who knows anything about cars will understand what the biggest pain in the rear and neck this is! Literately a big pain in the neck! Kody was really sore from laying on the concrete, holding his neck and hands up for that long. But, like everything else he does, he's a trooper, pushed through, and finished! We pulled into the church parking lot the next day and as we're getting out of the car he says, "Hey Julie, look!" I bent down to look under the car and he says, "See? No oil leak!" He's a stud! And we saved about $500 from him doing it himself! That's a total winner!
Since we moved here, Kody has also fixed our fridge, 2 washing machines, and our oven! It's nice having a handy man!
