These train runs along the north end of the county railroad, which is especially rugged as the track snakes along the cliffs that shadow the river far below. There are several tunnels and bridges along this stretch of track, ranging from low wooden trestles to the huge Box Canyon Bridge. No road offers the splendid views and awesome vistas that are afforded by a ride on the train.

The Pend Oreille Train
We drove about an hour to Pend Oreille County (pronounced Pond-er-A) to take a 20 mile train ride through the country/mountains. It was a beautiful ride and the fact that we got to ride on a real coal powered train was exciting! We sat in the enclosed passenger cars, so some of the pictures are a bit blurry because of the reflection on the windows, but nonetheless, we had a good time. If we do it again some time, maybe we'll sit in the open train cars! And all the kids did well for the 90 minute ride.
